Latest Info
Farewell 2009; hello 2010!
2010 is set to be a fantastic year for Tak and Team ZERO’S. Upcoming projects (which we began to receive hints about late last year) include: Yakuza’s Daughter, a Russian action-comedy for which Tak provided action direction and minor acting; The Blood of Wolves, Tak’s third directorial effort which is being co-scripted by Sono Sion and has recently been chosen as one of twenty-five works that will be featured in this year’s Hong Kong Asian Film Financing Forum; and a currently untitled project that Tak is working on with directors and madmen-extraordinaire, Nishimura Yoshihiro (of Tokyo Gore Police fame) and Iguchi Noboru (The Machine Girl, RoboGeisha).
Additionally, recent claims by Tak’s stunt coordinator and action partner Karasawa Isao seem to indicate that posts to Pegasus Fantasy (the official blog of Team ZERO’S) will be picking up in the coming year, so fingers crossed for that. There are also upcoming DVD releases and print magazine spreads – in English! – set for the first quarter of 2010. Please be sure to read on for all the latest…
Yakuza’s Daughter!
Last October, Karasawa began sporadically making posts to Pegasus Fantasy about the movie project he and Tak were working on. Shortly thereafter, news began to leak about the film. It is entitled Yakuza’s Daughter and is a Russian-produced action comedy. The film was shot in Japan and the Ukraine, and principle photography wrapped up in Crimea in mid-November. For all of the latest news on the film, including links to articles and more, please click here.
The Blood of Wolves!
Tak’s next directorial project is titled The Blood of Wolves. At the end of last year it was being shopped around the American Film Market with an expected start date of 2010 and a completion date that seems to depend largely on funding. Just this month, we learned that the film had been selected to participate in the 8th annual HAF. Early last year, Tak and close friend Shimomura Yûji began work on a project tentatively titled “Wolf” (see this post for more info), and this film may be related to that endeavor. But then again, it might not. ;> For up-to-date news about this project, please click here.
Upcoming Events!
None scheduled.
Recently Translated Articles!
None.
Notice: It is highly unlikely that I will have time to complete any translations until the summer when my intensive language course ends. Please expect updating of the backlog to recommence at that time with the articles and interviews from the Sakigake!! Otokojuku period. My apologies for any inconvenience this causes.
DVD News!
* January 21st, 2010: Boku to mama no kiiroi jitensha (Japanese DVD). A delightful little gem of a film that was released this past summer. The plot concerned the journey of a little boy to find his mother, whom he had (falsely) believed to be living in Paris. On his travels, the little boy meets many strangers (one of whom is portrayed by Tak) and has many adventures before he reaches his destination. Click here for full details about the release.
* February 26th, 2010: Vampire Girls vs. Frankenstein Girl (Japanese DVD). Nishimura Yoshihiro and Tomomatsu Naoyuki’s highly acclaimed splatter-gore comedic masterpiece comes to DVD in a three-disk “Blood-Stained Edition.” Both Tak and his action partner, Karasawa Isao, provided action choreography and action direction for the film. Full details about the release can be found by checking out this post. And for everything you ever wanted to know about Vamp Girl and its Tak-related travels around the world, check out the Vamp Girl tagged entries.
